The safest way to use AI is usually in short, controlled steps.
A helpful workflow looks like this:
- remove private details
- ask AI for a summary, list, or draft
- check the result yourself
- edit it to sound like you
- verify any important facts before acting
This keeps AI in the helper role instead of the decision-maker role.
A quick example: you paste in a confusing letter with account numbers removed and ask for a simple summary plus three questions to ask customer service. That is much safer than asking the AI to tell you exactly what legal choice to make.
What to do:
- Use AI in steps, not one big leap.
- Strip out identifying details first.
- Make checking part of the workflow, not an afterthought.
