Ask:

  • what is the claim?
  • who benefits if I believe it quickly?
  • how can I verify this without using the same channel that delivered it?

If the answer is “I cannot verify it calmly,” then you do not act.

What to do:

  • Verify independently.
  • Slow the story down.
  • Teach family members the same habit, especially around money and emergencies.
