At Level 1, you learned how to make a strong passphrase. Level 2 adds the reality that one strong password is not enough if you use it again and again.
CISA’s Secure Our World guidance explains why password managers matter: they help you use a different strong password for every account without trying to memorize all of them.
A password manager does three main jobs:
- stores your passwords in one protected place
- creates strong random passwords
- fills them only on the site that matches
That last point matters a lot. If a fake login page appears, a password manager often will not autofill. That hesitation can save you.
Founder note: Corey built Lumoset because most people are told “use strong passwords” and then left alone with twenty accounts and no system. A system is what makes the advice usable.
A quick example: if your email, shopping account, and bank all share one password, a leak at one weaker site can expose the others. A password manager breaks that chain.
What to do:
- Stop thinking in terms of one good password.
- Start thinking in terms of one good password for every account.
- Use a password manager if you are managing more than a few important logins.
