Sharing a photo takes seconds, and it is one of the sweetest ways to stay close. There are two easy ways.

Way 1: Send a photo inside a text (simplest).

• Open Messages and open the conversation with the person.
• Tap the photo icon or the + near the message box.
• Pick a picture from your photos, then tap send (the arrow).

The photo arrives right in your chat, and they can save it or send one back.

Way 2: A shared photo album (great for lots of pictures). If your family takes many photos, a shared album lets everyone add to and view the same collection. On iPhone this is a Shared Album in the Photos app; many families also use Google Photos, which works on any phone. A family member can set it up once and invite you, and then new photos simply appear for you to enjoy.

A helpful habit: when someone sends you a photo you love, you can save it by pressing and holding the picture, then choosing Save. Now it lives in your own photos too.

A quick example. Your grandson sends you a photo from his soccer game. You press and hold it, tap Save, and it is now in your photos to look at any time. Then you tap the photo icon, pick a picture of your garden, and send it back. A two-way visit in pictures.

• Ask if the family has a shared album you can be added to.
