Many people turn on 2FA and stop there. Level 3 goes further. You also need to know where your recovery path lives.

Important settings to review:

  • backup codes
  • recovery email address
  • recovery phone number
  • trusted devices
  • app passwords or connected apps

If those are outdated or controlled by someone else, your safety setup may look stronger than it really is.

A quick example: you lose access to your phone and discover your backup codes were never saved and your recovery email goes to an old account you no longer use. That turns a manageable problem into a crisis.

What to do:

  • Review recovery settings before an emergency, not during one.
  • Store backup information in a safe place you can reach.
  • Remove old devices and old recovery addresses.
